Devir Dondu

"Devir dondu, zaman yine pic oldu."

Teslim Abdal (Elif Safak, Pinhan - Felaket bolumunun ilk kismindan.)

Down In The Walley

I saw a lady. I said hi. She had pain in her eyes. She was tipsy at yesterday's night she said. I left. Being lost but not even cry.

On the way back home, i dreamed a question: "Hey do you sell hope for your customer?". I change my way and i went there. But, i couldn't ask since the question was weird. I sit on the couch. I drunk my tea. I read my book.

I think i saw a dream over there. I don't know rest of my life. It is fact. But, i think i saw the most beautiful girl in my life.

Why are you holding your hair like that? Where did you find your white dress with that tons of red spots? You are smiling? Are your eyes real? How come they so shinny and shy at the same time? Are you real?

Then, owner of the shop came to me. He said "Can i interrupt your reading for a moment?" I said "Sure". Then, he told me with all his kindness that he wanted to share his three stories. He was selecting the words while he was talking. Then, he signed his stories for me. He didn't gave me only his stories, he gave me hope like a tea even if he doesn't know.

The time was running. She was there, but i couldn't even move. I knew 11pm was the time to leave. I knew she was waiting me to say something. At 11pm, she left. I wasted two minutes around to say something to her. I looked around. But, i couldn't find her...

Were you real?

Here are my favorites:

The Hallucinogenic Toreador

The Average Bureaucrat

Weaning of Furniture Nutrition

Gala Contemplating the Mediterranean Sea which at Twenty Meters Becomes the Portrait of Abraham Lincoln

Basket of Bread

Hairspray

Hairspray at USF! I think love the moment when the curtain is removed and the stage is revealed. It is like opening the package of a gift :) "You can't stop the beat!" as they said :) I remember the moments i drink the tango beats like a water when i am craving for it.

After the musical, i went to fill our water containers. Then, i got my coffee and stopped by the parking lot which is the one of highest buildings around USF for me. You know Tampa is almost flat city, even there is no small hill. Anyways, the sky was very clear. I admit that i was lucky: a star has fallen just near Jupiter. It was beautiful. Make a wish!

"The Dispossessed" and "The Stars My Destination"

“You pigs, you. You rut like pigs, is all. You got the most in you, and you use the least. You hear me, you? Got a million in you and spend pennies. Got a genius in you and think crazies. Got a heart in you and feel empties. All a you. Every you...Take a war to make you spend. Take a jam to make you think. Take a challenge to make you great. Rest of the time you sit around lazy, you. Pigs, you! All right, God damn you! I challenge you, me. Die or live and be great. Blow yourselves to Christ gone or come and find me, Gully Foyle, and I make you men. I make you great. I give you the stars.”

“Be grateful that you only see the outward man. Be grateful that you never see the passions, the hatreds, the jealousies, the malice, the sicknesses... Be grateful you rarely see the frightening truth in people.”

Alfred Bester, The Stars My Destination

"There was a wall. It did not look important. It was built of uncut rocks roughly mortared. An adult could look right over it, and even a child could climb it. Where it crossed the roadway, instead of having a gate it degenerated into mere geometry, a line, an idea of boundary. But the idea was real. It was important. For seven generations there had been nothing in the world more important than that wall. Like all walls it was ambiguous, two-faced. What was inside it and what was outside it depended upon which side of it you were on."

"Change is freedom, change is life. It's always easier not to think for oneself. Find a nice safe hierarchy and settle in. Don't make changes, don't risk disapproval, don't upset your syndics. It's always easiest to let yourself be governed. There's a point, around age twenty, when you have to choose whether to be like everybody else the rest of your life, or to make a virtue of your peculiarities. Those who build walls are their own prisoners. I'm going to go fulfill my proper function in the social organism. I'm going to go unbuild walls."

“If you can see a thing whole," he said, "it seems that it's always beautiful. Planets, lives. . . . But close up, a world's all dirt and rocks. And day to day, life's a hard job, you get tired, you loose the pattern. You need distance, interval. The way to see how beautiful earth is, is to see it from the moon. The way to see how beautiful life is, is from the vantage point of death."

“The thing about working with time, instead of against it, he thought, is that it is not wasted. Even pain counts.”

Ursula K. Le Guin, The Dispossessed: An Ambiguous Utopia.

Today, we pass over the quotes from some books with Anas. I wish we could do it more often.

Especially i am hitting the wall when i read "got a million in you and spend pennies. Got a genius in you and think crazies. Got a heart in you and feel empties" and "the way to see how beautiful earth is, is to see it from the moon. The way to see how beautiful life is, is from the vantage point of death.""... i feel guilty because of the times that i don't smile. Even if i knew all these quotes before, sometimes, things break me down.

I have my freedom. What else do i want? Is it really possible a language without the words "me", "I", "my" and "mine"? Could we live without possessing anything?

Literature is good.

Little things

"... you can tell a little thing from a big thing. What's very hard is to tell a little thing from nothing at all."

Michael Thun, 1995

Simdiki Zaman

Krem

Now is a fleeting moment caught between the irreversible past and the uncertain future. If you don’t keep it firmly in your palm, it flies like a bird.

Not so much, just a few minutes ago, at the table where you look longingly now, you went after another dream when the reality gave the chance for your dreams. You made a reality from the dream, and a dream from the reality.

The time flies while running for the values of others without feeling the preciousness in your palm. One day, you realize that the most valuable thing has been gone for nothing in your entire life.

Krem (English translation by Murat and me.)
